Optronics is a fundamental and basic technology, a field in the field of defense, which combines optics, electronics and different wavelengths to develop cutting-edge systems and applications. In Grupo Oesía, we are committed to innovation and development of optronics solutions and applications to face current and future challenges. In this article, we will explore in depth what optronics is, how it is applied in defense and its various applications in the modern world.

What is optronics and why is it important?

Optronics is an interdisciplinary field that combines optics and electronics to create high-precision, high-efficiency systems and devices. Optics deals with the study and manipulation of light, while electronics focuses on the control and processing of electrical signals. By merging these two fields, optronics enables the development of advanced technologies that improve detection, tracking and identification of targets in different environments and environmental conditions.

The importance of optronics lies in its ability to improve the efficiency and accuracy of defense systems, where traditional vision systems are unable to reach, as well as to develop solutions in various fields, including medicine, industry and space exploration.

Defense optronics applications

Refrigerated and non-refrigerated infrared chambers

One of the most relevant applications of optronics in defense is infrared cameras, which make it possible to capture images in low visibility conditions or in complete darkness. These cameras use sensors sensitive to infrared radiation emitted by objects, allowing them to detect and monitor targets even when they are not visible to the naked eye. Cooled and uncooled infrared sensors offer different levels of performance. The reefers are used in systems that demand greater sensitivity, and are integrated with optical solutions designed to suit the specific needs of each project.

Solutions for sensor, camera and system integrators

In Grupo Oesía we offer a wide range of optronic solutions for integrators of sensors, cameras and systems. Our solutions are designed to adapt to various platforms, including land, sea and air. Working closely with our customers, we develop customized optronics solutions that meet their specific needs and improve the efficiency of their systems.

Technologies included in optronics

Optronics encompasses a wide range of technologies and devices, including:

  • Sensors sensitive to different wavelengths.
  • Specific materials for each wavelength: optics.
  • Ad hoc electronics and algorithms for control and signal processing.
  • Both application and real-time software.
  • Lasers: used to measure distances and designate targets.

Optronics applications beyond defense

While optronics is widely used in defense, its applications extend to other fields, including:

Medicine

Optronics has a great impact on medicine, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. For example, optical endoscopes allow physicians to examine the inside of the human body with high resolution and minimal invasiveness, while lasers are used for precise surgery and noninvasive treatments.

Industry

In industry, optronics plays a fundamental role in automation and process control. Optical sensors and high-resolution cameras are used to inspect and monitor product quality, as well as to guide robots and autonomous vehicles in manufacturing environments.

Space exploration

Optronics is also essential in space exploration, where sensors and optical systems enable space probes and telescopes to capture detailed images of planets, stars and other celestial bodies.

Public and private security

Another area where optronics has proven valuable is in public and private security. Optronics-based surveillance systems, such as high-resolution cameras and motion sensors, help maintain security in public spaces, critical infrastructure and private property. The ability to quickly detect and identify potential threats and provide real-time information to authorities and security teams is crucial to effectively prevent and address incidents.

Sustainable development and environment

Optronics also offers solutions in the field of sustainable development and environmental protection. Optical sensors and infrared cameras are used to monitor air and water quality, as well as to detect changes in ecosystems and weather patterns. These devices enable scientists and policy makers to make informed decisions about environmental conservation and sustainable policy implementation.

Scientific research and technological advances

Research in the field of optronics is constantly driving the development of new technologies and applications. Some recent advances include miniaturization of optical devices, improved energy efficiency and reduced production costs. These innovations enable the integration of optronics technologies into an increasingly wide range of devices and systems, further expanding the scope and potential of optronics in a variety of fields.

In short, optronics is a constantly evolving field that merges optics and electronics to develop cutting-edge solutions in defense, medicine, industry, space exploration, security and sustainability. Grupo Oesia prides itself on being at the forefront of innovation in optronics applications and providing customized solutions to address a wide range of challenges and needs in various applications and platforms.

SGoSat

Family of SATCOM On The Move (SOTM) terminals for vehicular installation and stable mobile connection

SGoSat is a family of high-tech SOTM (Satellite Comms On The Move) terminals that are installed in a vehicle, providing the ability to target and maintain a stable connection to the satellite when the vehicle is in motion in any type of conditions.

The SGoSat family is composed of versatile terminals, which can be installed on any type of platform: trains and buses, military and/or government vehicles, aircraft, ships, etc. Originally designed for the military sector, SGoSat terminals are extremely reliable and robust, integrating high-performance components that comply with the most stringent environmental and EMI/EMC regulations. The product uses low-profile, high-efficiency antennas and a high-performance positioning and tracking unit, allowing the terminal to be operated anywhere in the world.

In order to meet the diverse needs of its customers, INSTER has developed single band and dual band terminals in X, Ka and Ku frequencies.

The SGoSat family of terminals can also be configured with a wide range of radomes (including ballistic options) to suit customer requirements.
